I have always loved assisting people in choosing their outfits and accessorizing, and realized that my coaching clients benefit from my passion and my fashion degree. The change that comes after divorce affects our confidence on many different levels.
Maybe you dressed a certain way during your marriage to please your partner. (When I worked in retail, I witnessed how controlling men can be over what their wives/girlfriends should wear, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you couldn’t identify with your wardrobe anymore.) You might have lost weight during that stressful period or gained a few pounds, or you just want to try something different, something bold.
Either way, it’s helpful, almost therapeutic, to go over your closet, do some clearance, and, of course, buy something new.
One day, I had a client who took two pants to the fitting room and tried them on for 45 minutes. When I checked on her, she was on the verge of tears. One looked perfect on her, and the other cut into her waist, but it was “her size,” the size she always bought and wanted to fit in. She was determined to lose weight and didn’t want to spend money on a bigger size. I could relate to it so much!
Have you ever experienced the “It’s a bit tight, but I buy it anyway because I’m going to fit in it soon” syndrome?
In the past few years, I gained weight. 10 pounds, to be exact. I look much healthier than the super skinny version of me right after divorce, but my new, healthy, happy butt didn’t fit in my old clothes. I felt horrible about myself each time I looked at my tailored shorts. Until one day, I decided it was time to wear clothes my size and feel pretty NOW. I bought a few dresses during the summer sale that fit me perfectly and made me feel good about my curvier body.
Remember this:
👉No need to punish yourself for looking different than 5-10 years ago.
👉Losing weight isn’t always the healthy choice, and if it is, you can still look fabulous while working off those extra pounds.
👉Dare to be yourself and choose a style that matches your personality rather than following the latest trends.
👉If you temporarily need to size up or down, buy a few cheaper options that complement other pieces in your closet.
👉If you look in the mirror in the fitting room and like what you see, forget the size on the label! Depending on the brand, you can be two sizes bigger or smaller!
🥰 Wear clothes that make you smile! 🥰
